Construction Craft Laborer

ABC Western Pennsylvania Chapter

Construction Craft Laborer

As a Construction Craft Laborer apprentice, you’ll develop essential skills needed to support a wide range of tasks on active construction sites, including material handling, site preparation, and basic construction techniques. You’ll learn to safely operate and maintain various tools and equipment while following established jobsite procedures.

Safety is a key focus of the program, with training in proper protocols and the consistent use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Apprentices also build strong problem-solving skills, jobsite organization, and efficiency in supporting overall project operations.

In addition to technical training, the program emphasizes professionalism, teamwork, effective communication, and maintaining high ethical standards in the field.

NCCER HVACR Curriculum

The Construction Craft Laborer Apprenticeship Program is a comprehensive two-year training pathway that combines hands-on field experience with structured classroom instruction. Apprentices complete 167 hours of Related Technical Instruction (RTI) each year, along with a total of 4,000 hours of On-the-Job Learning (OJL).

The RTI component follows the National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) curriculum, enabling apprentices to earn industry-recognized, stackable credentials at each stage of the program. Training begins with CORE—an introductory module focused on communication skills, employability, basic construction safety practices, and the proper use of tools—before progressing through Construction Craft Laborer Levels 1 and 2.
