As an HVAC Mechanic & Installer apprentice, you’ll build a strong foundation in installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. You’ll learn to read and interpret blueprints, understand applicable HVAC codes, and work with a wide range of equipment, components, and tools.
Safety is a core focus of the program, with hands-on training in proper procedures, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and adherence to industry safety standards. Apprentices also develop critical problem-solving and project coordination skills to support efficient jobsite performance.
In addition to technical training, the program emphasizes professionalism, effective communication, and maintaining high ethical standards in the field.
NCCER HVACR Curriculum
The HVAC Mechanic & Installer Apprenticeship is a comprehensive four-year program that combines hands-on field experience with structured classroom instruction. Apprentices complete 173 hours of Related Technical Instruction (RTI) each year, along with a total of 8,000 hours of On-the-Job Learning (OJL).
The RTI component follows the National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) curriculum, enabling apprentices to earn industry-recognized, stackable credentials at each stage of the program. Training begins with CORE—an introductory module focused on communication skills, employability, basic safety practices, and the proper use of tools—before advancing through HVAC Levels 1, 2, 3, and 4.
